Hello

Jo Moar
Founder and Operational Consultant
Mursetter Consultants
"I'm a seasoned loner in my profession; there's no team of eager staff to cover for me. It's solely me. However, when I say "solely," I mean you're working with one exceptionally skilled individual throughout the process".
I have been working in (and with) the administration, operations, compliance, and not-for-profit sectors for over 30 years as a volunteer, employee, and contractor. I have qualifications in Quality Assurance, Internal Auditing, Health & Safety, and Stakeholder Engagement.
I am an active volunteer in the local and national sporting community, having held various roles in football and bowling clubs. In 2018 I was recognised among my peers for my volunteer contributions to football in New Zealand. The previous year I was awarded Sportsperson of the Year by the Wellington United Associated Football Club. I am a past volunteer for the Wellington Phoenix.
I am also an engaged member of Toastmasters International, a public speaking and leadership development organisation, and have previously held leadership roles in this domain. In 2017 and 2016 I completed my Advanced Leadership Bronze and Advanced Communicator Bronze awards respectively. In 2024 I obtained my Strategic Relationships Pathway award.
My spare time (when I have any) is spent spinning wool, crocheting, or gardening. I share a love of Football with my husband Pete as well as Road Trips in this beautiful country of ours.
We have a fur family of two cats and a dog.
My Story
Since before Christmas 2023, I had been thinking a lot about how I wanted to work "betterer" in 2024 while still having a good work/life balance which is important for my own wellbeing.
It all came to the forefront when I visited the Shetland Islands in February 2024 as part of the amazing honeymoon my husband Pete and I shared. We went to the island of Yell where my family ancestors lived. It amazed me how my forebears survived this place. In stone cottages with peat roofs, windows with only sacks or shutters to keep out the cold. Facing bleak snowy winters and little work opportunities apart from fishing, farming or being a servant - all of these roles predominately for the local Laird. It was so hard to imagine how resilient they must of been in that stark environment. How they had perservered and fought for their future. How they had to change as times changed.
In that moment I felt so connected to my past and to my future.
I decided that rather than just continue to be a contractor or go back to the corporate world, I would what I do best - help charities, not-for-profits, and sports clubs be their best selves.
So welcome to Mursetter Consultants. Empowering Not-For-Profits Build a Resilient Future. Set up as recognition for the critical need for additional support, within community organisations that face challenges, particularly in the current climate where volunteer shortages loom large.
This is MY WHY!!!.
